The winter holiday season is the favorite time of year for many people. First comes Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then New Years. Some families celebrate other holidays during November and December as well!
The holiday season is filled with many things, but it is also busy and stressful for a lot of people. It’s important to remember to take care of your health during all the celebrating and hustle and bustle. In fact, you need to make your health a priority and not just something you make sure you don’t forget. Taking care of your health is a way to have stamina during the holidays.
What does taking care of your health during the holidays look like? Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you that you can’t participate in the fun eating and other festivities!
People sometimes find staying hydrated easier in the summer when it’s hot but hydration is vital all year long. Water is incredibly important and so is only consuming alcohol and caffeine in moderation. Your body functions best when you are well hydrated. Staying well-hydrated can also help you stay healthy and avoid being tired.
Cold and dreary days don’t always make people motivated to get out and the busy holiday season can make it easy to push off exercise, but it’s important to keep up some sort of regiment. You will feel better physically, emotionally, and mentally if you incorporate even something simple like daily stretches, yoga, going for a walk, etc.
Don’t let your chiropractic care slide during the holidays. It can help you with stress and keeping your spine healthy will have a positive effect on the rest of your body and mood.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure you don’t skip out on rest. I know with parties, school breaks, etc., that your family’s sleep schedule will be interrupted some. But try to keep it pretty regular so that everyone is getting the rest they need. Rest can also mean simply not being busy. Remember that you don’t have to be on “go mode” all the time!
Holiday-related food is rich, plentiful, and delicious. Don’t feel like you can’t enjoy it but also try not to go overboard. No one’s diet is perfect during this time so it’s especially important to also keep up on your supplements. The ones I recommend to not miss for sure include probiotics, fish oil, and Vitamin D.
I am looking forward to the holiday season and all that it has to offer. I would love to help my clients stay healthy during the holidays and all year long! Schedule an appointment for your next adjustment on my website!
